The Real Cost of Living!!!

Rubbidydub

Recommended Posts

So after watching WDU over and over and over again it keeps saying that the cost of living is twice what it is in the UK so those that are out there.......Ive put together a list of outgoings to give us "yet to get theres" the real idea of what it costs to live on a monthly basis in OZ.

So if you wouldnt mind putting the cost next the the outgoing on a monthly basis and add anything Ive forgotten it would be very helpful for us at home to to do the WDU price comparison for ourselves. Not too bothered about rent or mortgage cost as thats down to individuals.....Just plain cost of living.

Thanks for some of your prices........electric looks a bit expensive but other than that it seems pretty much the same? def not double! is the electric because of AC?

The way it reads it does look like your comment was aimed at the previous poster, even though it wasn't

:biglaugh::biglaugh::biglaugh: It was most certainly not aimed at Whichway! She had not posted when I started typing my post. Anyway it worked we got some good solid facts even though it was not aimed at her. I was actually referring to WDU where you never seem to get any solid facts.

@ Whichway I most Humbly apologise for the miss understanding:notworthy::notworthy::notworthy::notworthy:

Rates.............. Never paid them, always rented and landlord paid

Electric........... $350 a quarter ( depends where you live and if you have a pool or use Air con a lot)

Gas................ $120 a quarter, bottled gas and only used for coking and a bit of heating in winter

Water............. landlord always paid, But sometimes when renting you pay for excess usage

House Phone ... $100 a month includes internet and T Box ( for free to air channels and recording)

Internet.......... Included with phone

Sky/Foxtel...... Not got Foxtel, but see adverts from $46 up to around $120 a month depending on package

Car Rego........ cannot give accurate cost, my wife is disabled and gets a reduction, but I would say around $600 a year

Car Insurance We pay around $350 a year with Youi, big discounts because we do not use car much.

Petrol............ Around $1.40 a litre

Mobile Phones Mnthly packages start at around $20 a month right up to and over $100 a month

Food & Groceries $400 a mnth, avoid big supermarkets often a lot cheaper in the smaller shops and better quality

Insurance House/Contents $380 a year

Leisure Time $0, a lot of free stuff around, and if you go to the beach or public parks there are quite often free BBQ facilities

PLease feel free to add your extra costs not listed.

Thanks In advance!

Alcohol seems expensive here but fortunately I do not drink much..

The figures I gave you are for a couple with no kids, Cost of living is higher, so are the average wages, its swings and roundabouts,

Also someone commented on alcohol. Be aware if your a big drinker its going to be a shock a crate of bottles (you dont get many crates of cans as they get warm too quickly) is around $40. There is certainl no '3 cases for £20' as we enjoy here. Spiritus are also more expensive but on the flip side you get the most amazong wines for around £6 a bottle, guess it just depends on your tipple

Thanks so far guys some great answers and to be fair yeah it's a bit more expensive for utilities and phones but groceries is about the same or a little higher? Depends what you buy I suppose! Definitely not twice as expensive though! Keep em coming!

I did an internet shop on the Coles website yesterday as was wondering how much more we would spend on our weekly shop. It came to approx 30% more than I am in Tesco's. I tried to choose similar quality to what I would buy here but it is difficult to be exact........
